Even a tiny inner courtyard of a downtown
apartment building can offer lovely things to look at.
The star attractions in that of ours are a
more than four-storey high horse chestnut – not exactly ‘my maple’ but quite a
beautiful replacement – and a lush lilac shrub. I love the fact that the lilac flowers are the same colour as those in the garden of our previous home.
The above blossoms are now fading but little by little new plants are starting to bloom as our exceptionally warm early summer
is being followed by a cooler period. Luckily, there are two more weeks until
Midsummer. I am keeping my hopes high.
I always marvel at what can be grown in smal spaces. Many years ago we had a high walled back yard. We dug up most of the concrete and grew so much on the walls. Totally transformed. Your chestnut and lilac are wonderful. Here's hoping for a warm midsummer. B X
ReplyDeleteIsn't it wonderful. We also have rather nice Virginia creepers even on the wall surrounding the waste container area.
DeleteThe lilacs are beautiful! Glad that you have beautiful plants and flowers to enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWhat's more, the blooming lasted rather a long time this year. I am looking forward to the peonies. I never had any of those in my garden.
DeleteSi good that you still have some plants closeby to enjoy. That lilac bush must smell wonderful. Sarah x
ReplyDeleteThe only downside of a courtyard like this is that you cannot cut anything from them to be put in a vase but I can live with that.
